Much of your metabolic rate is determined by genetics, age and gender, there are a few things that you can do to speed it up. Your metabolism is not responsible for weight gain or loss. Tiny adjustments to your metabolic rate can offer varied results. Any of the following can provide your metallic rate that boost it needs to get moving.
1 – Reduce the temperature
Either sleeping in a cooler room or having cold showers can increase certain peoples percentages of brown fat, which is a type of fat that acts like muscle, helping to burn other fat.
2 – Increase caffeine intake
Several studies have shown that there is an association between caffeine consumption and an increased metabolic rate as well as a reduction in risk of type 2 diabetes.
Caffeine helps to give you a boost as well as possibly breaking down body fat. There is no need to go overboard with caffeinated drinks each day as it has adverse symptoms that can affect sleep.
3 – Don’t stress
Stress is a large factor in slow metabolic rates and also in the consumption of fatty foods. Eating fatty foods may result in your body taking longer to process these calories. The stress response hormone cortisol is activated when we are in difficult positions and has been associated with worsening of metabolic rates.
4 – Get more sleep
Lack of and low quality sleep can result in the slowing down of your metabolic rate in both men and women. Studies have shown that when you have broken sleep and you are woken up several times throughout the night, it isn’t as restorative than a longer sleep. Make sure you sleep long enough to rest and recover.
5 – Munch on spicy food
Similar to caffeine, eating spicy foods have been shown to raise body temperature and speed up fat loss. Although it is only temporary and offers a small percentage of difference, the chemicals and isothiocyanate may help to burn away brown fat and speed up your metabolism.
